  • Product Details

The WSR550 76–81GHz radar level transmitter uses FMCW millimeter-wave radar technology to provide continuous, non-contact level measurement for liquids and bulk solids. With a high operating frequency, narrow beam angle and advanced signal processing, it is suitable for tanks and silos with dust, steam, foam, condensation, internal structures or agitators.

Compared with contact level measurement technologies, the WSR550 does not touch the medium, helping reduce mechanical wear, contamination risk and routine maintenance. It can be used in water and wastewater treatment, chemical storage, cement and powder silos, mining, food and beverage, agriculture, irrigation and general industrial storage applications.

The transmitter supports threaded or flange mounting, 4–20 mA, RS485, Modbus and HART communication options.

Application Industries for WSR550 80GHz FMCW Radar Level Transmitter

  • Why Choose 76–81GHz FMCW Radar?

76–81GHz FMCW radar provides high-frequency, high-resolution and non-contact level measurement for demanding industrial tanks and silos. Compared with lower-frequency radar or ultrasonic technologies, the shorter wavelength and narrow beam angle help the transmitter focus more accurately on the material surface and reduce interference from tank walls, ladders, pipes, agitators and other internal structures.

For liquid applications, WSR550 helps deliver stable level measurement in storage tanks, process vessels, water treatment systems and chemical tanks, even when steam, foam, condensation or surface turbulence is present. Since the sensor does not contact the medium, it reduces maintenance caused by corrosion, buildup or mechanical wear.

For bulk solid applications, the focused 80GHz radar beam is suitable for silos containing cement, powder, grain, plastic pellets, minerals and other solid materials. It can better detect uneven or sloped material surfaces and maintain reliable measurement in dusty or harsh environments.

With FMCW signal processing, a narrow beam angle and flexible output options such as 4–20 mA, RS485, Modbus and HART, WSR550 is easy to integrate into PLC, DCS, SCADA and remote monitoring systems. It provides a practical solution for users who need accurate, stable and low-maintenance level measurement in modern industrial automation.

  • Measurement Principle

The WRS550 operates based on the FMCW (Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave) radar principle. The antenna emits a continuous frequency-modulated microwave signal (76–81 GHz) that propagates at the speed of light. When the signal reaches the surface of the medium, a portion of it is reflected back to the antenna due to the change in the dielectric constant.

The frequency difference (beat frequency) between the transmitted and received signals is directly proportional to the distance (time of flight). Advanced digital signal processing technology converts this into a precise level reading. High frequency and wide bandwidth ensure superior resolution, while a narrow beam and advanced algorithms effectively suppress interference from agitators, dust, or false echoes, guaranteeing stable output even under conditions of turbulent liquid surfaces or heavy dust.
